It’s Saturday morning…ahhhh. I don’t have to drive to work in the dark, rush to get ready for students who need to be monitored every second, or deal with deadlines set by others before I get in the car for the hour drive home. Today, I still set the alarm, but that is because I am racing Mr. Sun to water the garden and take a long walk after I spend at least 45 minutes reading the Bible and other books and have a leisurely talk with God. This is when time stands still for me. I could bask in God’s presence forever.

It never fails that I leave this precious visit in a peaceful and motivated state.

I’m thankful that God never gets sick, exhausted, overwhelmed, or tired by my  complaints and talks about the same old subjects that I should have overcome by now. If I were Him, I would go away on vacation every other week. I asked the Father and Jesus, “Do you two have a special hiding place in Heaven where you go off to be alone and just enjoy each other away from all of our traumas and dramas?” I didn’t get an answer… yet.

I recently went on a school trip to Disneyland. While I went there every year as a child, it’s rare for me to go as an adult. It makes me sad to think about all of the nostalgic rides that have been replaced. Did you know that Disneyland celebrated its 70th anniversary a few months ago on July 17? It is a big deal if you are in that world. The park is celebrating it for the entire year of 2025 with a special parade, decorations, merchandise, and even food items. It was fun to get caught up in it for a day before I was recovering from standing in the long lines back at home.

To me, the big deal is that our Creator is about a zillion years old and doesn’t age! I never get nostalgic about Him because all I have to do is say “Hello!”, and all of the sudden I’m in His lap relaxing. It doesn’t cost me anything, and I can do this in my pajamas. There is no special advertising campaign or deals to lure me into His presence. He is complete and everything I need. It’s amazing that He doesn’t get flustered even though He is omnipresent and can visit with all of us simultaneously while still making me feel as though I am the only one He cares about at that moment.

In Hebrews 13:8, we are told, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and

forever.” He isn’t going to change. All of His comforting, encouraging, and motivating truths are eternal. Since they are timeless, our great grandchildren can enjoy Him as much as us.

When was the last time you thanked God for His unchanging, peaceful presence? He’s got His lap ready for you anytime. Are you available for Him right now?
